Farm Structures and Plans

About the Farm Building Plan Service

The Farm Building Plan Service provides drawings for the construction of structures and equipment used in Alberta's Agriculture industry. Plans and design information are available for a wide range of livestock production building, storage structures, building components and equipment. Most plans are produced by the Canada Plan Service, a co-operative venture of the federal and provincial departments of agriculture. A few additional plans have been developed by Alberta Agriculture, Food and Rural Development for specific Alberta requirements.

Each plan is described in a leaflet that outlines the main features of the plan, including a pictorial drawing of the floor plan, management information and some construction details. For some items the leaflet contains all the construction information, in which case large plans are not provided. The Edmonton office has a complete set of these leaflets as well as the more popular plans.

The large scale plans are available in limited quantity. They can be ordered by mail from Edmonton, but it is also preferred to contact an agricultural engineer in any of the offices listed on the order form. The agricultural engineer can offer planning and design assistance, or explain construction details or modifications to a particular plan.

This document contains a list of the current plans. Plans can also be downloaded directly from the Canada Plan Service by clicking onto the link below.
